The Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 (the WWVP Act) commenced on 8 November 2012. It aims to reduce the risk of harm or neglect to vulnerable people in the ACT. The WWVP Act requires those who work or volunteer with vulnerable people (children under 18 years) to have a background check and be registered. Teachers, judges and volunteers at Canberra Highland Dancing Championships, competitions and dancing displays are advised to read the content on the Access Canberra Website to determine their status and responsibility.
